Low Carb Diets involve consuming a decreased amount of carbohydrates and an increase in proteins and fat. The theory of this diet revolves around using up the reserved fat which is already present in your body. If used for a limited time, a low carb diet can be very effective for losing weight.
There are some reasons why this diet should only be used for a limited time. The main reason is people tend to increase their fat intake which increases the risk of heart disease as this increases the cholesterol levels. It is also common for dieters to experience muscle cramps, bad breath and a decrease in energy. In order to gain more energy while using Low Carb Diets it is crucial you increase the amount of protein in your diet, normal levels of protein per day is 80 – 115g so therefore you should increase this by another 60 -80g per day.
While dieting, it is always a good idea to start or continue an exercise routine. If you are just beginning to exercise a good way to start is to use a Recumbent Bike or Cross Trainer. The most important aspect of any diet is it teaches you to change your eating habits, replacing processed high fat high sugar foods with healthy fresh low calorie foods. Eating plenty of nuts, soy, fruits and low starch vegetables leads to a healthy diet.
